It's my personal observation that songs about "home" get used a lot in TV shows and films in particular. There are so many scenes with people going home, thinking about home, missing home... well, you get the idea ;-)
People often ask me if there's logic in creating and pitching songs about commonly-used themes, and the answer (in my opinion) is "yes." You'd get a lot more chances of landing a sync with a singer/songwriter-style song about home than you would with a prog rock tune about aliens.
And, don't forget that our conference, The Road Rally starts on Thursday, November 6th. TAXI members get two passes for zero cost. You can see the panels, classes, and mentors on that web page.
